“Fortune” Favors the Bold

When Plantec began planning their 2019 year, they rallied to make a positive impact for the environment and for the industry—which they quickly realized are not mutually exclusive. This led them to push their mother plant production onto the Mapal hydroponic system. This system combines an easy-to-use and practical design, along with letting Plantec use their fertilization and irrigation systems more efficiently.

Plantec is extremely proud to formally introduce a new red rose that has been gaining some very serious attention and exceeding expectations: “Fortune”. As breeder representatives, Plantec tries to put all of its varieties through aggressive testing to know the stress limits of each new variety. It is because of this extensive testing that they are so confident of how well not only growers, but also final consumers will be when they see this rose. Fortune has already been planted in more than 20 different commercial farms in 2019 and is promising to be a truly extraordinary variety. It has been behaving extremely well in all of their testing sites, which include locations in Bogota (2600m), Cayambe (2800m), and even some farms located at 3000m.

These roses have had fantastic reviews in the USA, Europe, and Russia. This variety has also demonstrated a very concentrated peak during harvest season, which is why Plantec believes growers will especially like Fortune for their Valentine’s Day production.

When looking at Fortune, growers can expect a variety that does not bronze, nor does it brown in exposure to sunlight. It mainly produces 60cm stems, with a bud size between 5.8 and 6cm. Its color is a deep velvet red, vastly different from other red roses in the market, and with a vase life that lasts approximately 20-23 days, it really does seem like Plantec found a rose that will make everyone in this industry, from growers to final consumers, feel a new passion for these flowers.
